Our individual stories from sisters with Stage IV and Metastatic breast cancer

Amy Leal-DiCarlo

My daughter Amy was diagnosed in 1997 at the age of 27, while nursing her
second child, who was then 18mos. old. She had a mastectomy followed by AC
and radiation. She had a third baby 10 mos after finishing radiation. Mets t
the lung were discovered in 1999. After many rounds of chemo, some of which
were quite new at the time. Amy succumbed ultimately to the lung and pleural
mets. She died Dec 9, 2004. She left behind 3 children ages 6,8 and 10
years, and her husband. Amy did all the "right things", exercised , nursed
her babies, didn't smoke and had no family history of Breast Cancer that we
are aware of. She lived life to the fullest as long as she was able,
continuing to home school her children. We need a CURE now, so that we stop
loosing our wives, mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.
